The New Pamban Bridge is fully set to replace the 105-year-old iconic Pamban Bridge for connecting the Indian mainland to Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu.

Designed For Safety, Speed & Innovation
The New Pamban Bridge is India’s latest but first vertical lift railway sea bridge. It is a very significant step, designed especially for safety, speed, and innovation.

New Pamban Bridge Length
The length of this new bridge is about 2.05 km long approximately and has been built at an expense of Rs 535 crore by RVNL. This new bridge has the capacity to handle high or increased traffic along with the capacity to handle faster trains or high-speed trains.

New Bridge Unique Features
This new bridge has a vertical lift span having an automated capacity of air clearance of 22m above sea level (safer for ships). This bridge is modernly designed for electrification & double tracks. This bridge additionally offers high-speed train compatibility with the latest modern design.
Old Pamban Bridge Decommissioned
The old Pamban Rail Bridge was actually built about 105 years ago in the year 1914 and was recently decommissioned due to corrosion in December 2022.
New Pambam Bridge Completion Date & Inauguration
The construction has been fully completed and the testing of the lift span is being done multiple times. The bridge is likely to be inaugurated after safety inspections by the Commission of Railway Safety (CRS), according to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

New Pamban bridge opening date
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has said that the New Pamban Bridge’s construction has been completed and it is undergoing multiple safety tests. The Commissioner of Railway Safety has also given the approval for passenger services at a maximum speed of 75 kmph.
The exact date of inauguration has not been confirmed yet, but the inauguration is expected very soon.
