On 7th January 2024, Ramalinga Reddy said in his statement (published in the newspaper The Hindustan Times on 8th January 2024) that during Rajiv Gandhi’s tenure as Prime Minister, steps were taken to unlock the then-Disputed Structure in Ayodhya in 1985. He accused the BJP of deceit and propagating falsehoods, emphasizing that the Congress separates Hinduism from politics.

In 1985 the then Congress leader And Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi issued an order to open the Locks of the sanctum sanctorum (garbha-griha) of Shree Ram’s birthplace in the unauthorized and illegal and disputed structure in Ayodhya under the high pressure of the agitations by the Hindu Community headed by Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal, Bharatiya Janata Party and other Organizations of The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as the initiative of construction of Shree Ram Mandir Temple Construction has been initiated by them. In fact, at that time I along with several other Hindu Community Leaders had been the participant in the said Shree Ram Mandir Construction Agitations in those days. Therefore it is quite more than clear that the Hindu Community under the broad leadership of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal, Bharatiya Janata Party, and other Organizations of The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) also known as Sangh Parivar had jointly taken the initiative to build the Shree Ram Mandir at Ayodhya.
